SIBU: Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) President, Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian reminded all members and party machinery to continue to serve the people at all times and not just appear during the election season.

He said the opening of the new SUPP Dudong Branch Office in Jalan Aman yesterday (Jan 25) symbolised more than a move to a larger and more comfortable premises, but reflected the party’s commitment to strengthening grassroots services.

“This office is a service centre for the people. We do not serve only during elections, but at all times. This is the true spirit of SUPP’s struggle since its establishment in 1959,” he said at the opening ceremony.

According to Dr Sim, who is also the Deputy Premier, SUPP remains relevant to this day because the party has always put the interests of the people as a priority despite facing various challenges and political ups and downs throughout its three generations of struggle.

He also stressed that Sarawak’s wealth is not something to be proud of, but rather needs to be harnessed to accelerate development for the well-being of the people, including in the fields of education, economy and health.

“Sarawak is respected today not because we are rich alone, but because what we do is an example to other states. This is the result of the joint efforts of all the government component parties,” he said.

He also called on SUPP members to continue to unite and maintain political stability to ensure that Sarawak’s development can continue, especially in the next five years which he described as critical.

“Once we have stood strong, we must remain stable. Only with stability can we achieve Sarawak Vision 2030,” he said.

He also congratulated the SUPP Dudong leadership and the entire team for their continuous efforts in strengthening services to the local community.

At the same event, Dr Sim, who is also the Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government, presented a token of appreciation to veteran SUPP Dudong members who have served the party for a long time.
