Flood mitigation projects for Kuching presented to Premier

KUCHING: The Kuching City Flood Mitigation Plan Phase 2 and the Sungai Semariang Flood Mitigation Project were presented to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at the Satria Pertiwi Complex here today.

Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, said the presentation which took place today was aimed at ensuring the smooth implementation of the flood mitigation projects to safeguard the well-being of residents in the affected areas.

He said the Premier provided views, advice and recommendations to strengthen project execution, reflecting the Sarawak government’s continued commitment to addressing flood risks through long-term and sustainable solutions.

The presentation was led by representatives from the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA), including its Deputy Secretary-General (Water Sector) Datuk Mohd Rodzwan Mohd Baba Sakri, and Director-General of the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) Datuk Mohamad Radzi Abdul Talib.

Also present on behalf of the Sarawak Government were Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian and Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Law, Malaysia Agreement 1963 and Federal-State Relations) Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali, who is also Samariang state assemblywoman.
