MIRI: Police arrested three local men aged between 25 and 41 in connection with the theft of a hamper from a supermarket at Times Square here.
The suspects were detained following an investigation into a theft reported at a MyDaily Mart outlet on Jan 27. The case is being investigated under Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft in a building.
Mirid district police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the stolen hamper, estimated to be worth RM1,050, was later recovered during a follow-up operation at one of the suspects’ residences.
“The arrest and recovery of the stolen property were the result of prompt action by the investigating team,” he said in a statement on Wednesday (Jan 28).
Police have not ruled out the possibility that the suspects may have been involved in other similar cases, and investigations are ongoing.
The district police chief also reminded members of the public, particularly business operators, to remain vigilant and to strengthen security measures at their premises.
“Shop owners are advised to ensure closed-circuit television cameras are installed and functioning properly, especially in areas outside the premises.
“Any suspicious activity should be reported immediately to the police to help prevent crime,” he said.
