KOTA SAMARAHAN: A water distribution system has been implemented to resolve prolonged water supply woes affecting residents of Kampung Sungai Mata.

Deputy Minister for Rural and Regional Development Datuk Rubiah Wang said Sarawak Water has delivered and installed two large water tanks, each with a capacity of 5,000 gallons, to ensure more organised and sufficient water distribution to affected households.

She said supporting works and pipe connections to residents’ homes are currently being carried out and are expected to be completed within about a month.

“Once the system is fully operational, water will be pumped directly to residents’ homes, meaning they will no longer need to transport water manually as before,” she said in a statement.

Rubiah, who is also the Kota Samarahan Member of Parliament, said the interim distribution system was a crucial short-term measure to meet residents’ daily needs while awaiting the completion of upgrading works at the Batu Kitang Water Treatment Plant.

She said the upgrading project was expected to improve capacity and stabilise water supply, particularly in the Samarahan area and its surroundings.

She also acknowledged that the current water disruption was not limited to Kampung Sungai Mata, but affected several other areas around Samarahan.

Rubiah said she would be meeting Utility and Telecommunication Minister Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi soon to raise residents’ concerns and seek further clarification on both short-term and long-term solutions.
