SIMANGGANG: A 60-year-old man and his 12-year-old nephew were killed after the motorcycle they were riding collided with a van along Jalan Sri Aman–Lingga early Thursday.

Sri Aman district police chief Superintendent Dennis Bunyam said the fatal crash occurred at about 6.20 am and involved a van driven by a 77-year-old man.

“Preliminary investigations found that the van is believed to have lost control before veering into the opposite lane and crashing into the motorcycle,” he said in a statement.

Both the rider and pillion passenger — a Year Six pupil of SK Gran Stumbin — died at the scene due to severe injuries sustained in the collision.

Dennis said the van driver was not injured.

The bodies of the victims were sent to a nearby hospital for post-mortem examinations.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
