Trespasser jailed one year

KUCHING: The Magistrates’ Court here today sentenced a 29-year-old man to 12 months’ jail for trespassing on private property in December 2025.

Iqmal Puninman pleaded guilty to the charge under Section 448 of the Penal Code, which was read before Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan.

Upon conviction, the offence carries a punishment of up to three years’ imprisonment, a fine of up to RM5,000, or both.

According to the charge sheet, Iqmal committed the offence at 9.30 am on Dec 12, 2025, in Matang by entering an empty house without permission.

Based on the facts of the case, the complainant spotted Iqmal climbing over the outer fence of the house before sitting in the front yard.

The complainant reprimanded Iqmal for his actions, but he immediately fled the premises.

During the incident, the complainant managed to clearly see the accused’s face and was able to identify him.

The house had long been abandoned and unoccupied.

The complainant later lodged a police report to seek assistance in locating the suspect, who was subsequently arrested by the police.

During investigations, the accused admitted to entering the house compound but stated that he did not take any items from the property.

The case was handled by Deputy Public Prosecutor Ahmad Fauzullufti Suriani, while Iqmal was unrepresented.
