MIRI: Police arrested a 37 year old local man in connection with the theft of an electricity meter box from a business premise at Seberkas Commercial Centre, off Pujut–Lutong Road, here, resulting in an estimated loss of RM150.

The suspect was detained by a police team led by Assistant Superintendent Goldy Jangan, head of the Miri Central Police Station, with support from officers of the station’s Crime Prevention Patrol Unit.

The arrest followed an investigation into a reported theft at Lot 2193, Seberkas Commercial Centre.

Police said the suspect was taken into custody without incident.

The case is being investigated under Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft in a building.

The suspect has since been produced before the Miri Magistrate’s Court, where police secured a four day remand order to facilitate further investigations.

Miri district police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah has advised members of the public to remain vigilant and to strengthen security measures at commercial premises, particularly in areas outside shop units that are more exposed.

He urged shop owners to install closed circuit television cameras in open or vulnerable areas and to promptly report any suspicious activity to the police to help curb crime and prevent losses.
