KAPIT: Murum state assemblyman, Kennedy Chukpai Ugon, has expressed confidence in Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail’s leadership in resolving long-standing identification documentation issues and strengthening border control and national security in Sarawak’s rural areas.
Chukpai, together with Hulu Rajang Member of Parliament, Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong, met the Home Minister at Tapak Megah, Long Nawang, on Wednesday to discuss key matters affecting rural communities and border regions within the Murum constituency.
Among the main issues raised were problems involving MyKad and birth certificate documentation, as well as the proposed construction of an Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security Complex (ICQS) at Tapak Megah, which borders Indonesia’s Long Nawang Border Training and Inspection Centre (PLBN).
Chukpai said the issue is very important to the people of Murum as it is closely related to their access to government services, education and development opportunities.
“At the same time, the construction of an ICQS at Tapak Megah will strengthen border management, facilitate movement and support local socioeconomic activities,” Kennedy said.
He also expressed appreciation to the Director-General of the National Registration Department (JPN) Malaysia, Datuk Badrul Hisham, for the cooperation and commitment in facilitating the meeting.
Also present were Orang Ulu community leaders from Murum – Pemanca Tony Kulleh, Pemanca Umek Jeno and Penghulu Dominic Minggu.
