KUCHING: The increase in women’s seats in the next Sarawak state election will be at the discretion of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Chief of the Women’s Wing of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PWPBB), Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah, said that the women’s wing will fully support all decisions made by the state leadership.

“For PBB’s women’s movement, we leave it to the Premier’s discretion because he understands the feelings, hearts and instincts of women,” she said.

She said this at a press conference after chairing PWPBB Supreme Council meeting at PBB headquarters here today.

Responding to reporters’ questions, Fatimah expressed the desire to negotiate for an increase in the number of women if the number of state seats is increased to 99 seats in the upcoming state election.

“We will negotiate on that later. However, the final decision ultimately rests with the top leader, and we will continue to stand firmly behind him,” she said.

In the same development, Fatimah also assured that they will continue to move forward together as a team led by the Premier for Sarawak.

“Any negative narrative against the Premier’s leadership or against Sarawak will make us even more united,” she explained.

She further stated that Sarawak always prioritises unity, development, peace and harmony in the interest of Sarawak First.

“We will work together as a team and continue to strengthen support for the leadership to make the people of Sarawak more united,” she added.

Meanwhile, PBB Women’s Wing Deputy Chief, Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali, said that Sarawak has achieved various successes through the Premier’s wisdom in reclaiming most of the state’s rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

“We will continue to defend the state’s rights in the Sarawak way. The results we have achieved so far clearly reflect that our approach is correct,” she said.
