KUCHING: The Sarawak Government has allocated RM1.05 billion to the Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication (MUT) for 2026 to implement utility and telecommunication projects across Sarawak.
Its minister, Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi, said the allocation included funding under Alternative Financing and the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP).
“Therefore, I urge all agencies to implement the approved projects and programmes promptly and in accordance with the stipulated allocations.
“I also call on agencies to frequently conduct site visits and closely monitor project sites so that corrective actions can be taken immediately should any issues arise.
“Additionally, agencies must take firm action if contractor performance is unsatisfactory,” he said.
He said this when officiating at the Minister’s Address to MUT staff at Hotel Imperial here today.
In a related development, he expressed optimism that the implementation of the 77 programmes outlined in the 2026 Annual Plan could be carried out more excellently, based on previous performance records.
“The achievement of the 2025 Annual Plan stood at 99 per cent compared to 98 per cent in 2024.
“This achievement is not merely a figure; it reflects effective planning and implementation as well as a very strong level of cooperation and synergy between the ministry and its agencies.
“Congratulations and well done to all involved. This achievement should serve as a catalyst to elevate the ministry’s performance to a higher level in the future,” he said.
Elaborating further, he noted that the Annual Plan introduced in 2023 had proven effective in assisting MUT to formulate and implement planned action plans and initiatives more effectively and efficiently.
Touching on gas distribution, he said PETROS was appointed as the Sole Gas Aggregator effective February 1, 2024 to manage the procurement, supply, distribution and sale of natural gas in Sarawak.
According to him, the appointment is in line with the Sarawak government’s efforts to strengthen governance of the gas industry in the state.
“The implementation of this role is crucial to ensure continuity of gas supply in supporting infrastructure development and the state’s economic growth, in line with the Sarawak Gas Roadmap and the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030),” he explained.
