MIRI: Police here have arrested two local men, aged 40 and 47, in connection with a break-in and theft at a clothing shop in Marina Phase 2, Miri, earlier on Monday (Feb 9).
The suspects were detained at a budget hotel in the town centre following intelligence-led operations by the Criminal Investigation Department of the Miri District Police Headquarters. Police also seized items believed to be linked to the crime.
The burglary was reported to have occurred in the early hours of Feb 9. Initial investigations indicate the shop owner suffered losses estimated at about RM6,000.
The case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code for house-breaking and theft. Police said both suspects will be brought before the court to apply for a remand order to facilitate further investigations.
Miri District Police Chief, ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah, urged business owners to remain vigilant and to strengthen security measures at their premises.
He advised shop operators to install closed-circuit television cameras and alarm systems as basic safeguards to deter criminal activity.
