KUCHING: The Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) conducted an emergency response drill today (Feb 11) at Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg to test traffic warden readiness for major traffic light failures.

In its Facebook (FB) post today, the ‘Emergency Response Exercise: Power Breakdown Management’ programme was held at the traffic light intersection in front of Wisma SABERKAS at around 10.00 am.

“This annual exercise is part of DBKU’s ongoing initiative to strengthen the preparedness and efficiency of all traffic wardens in managing emergency situations, particularly in the event of traffic light failures in the Kuching North area,” it said.

In today’s simulation, a report of a traffic light malfunction was received from a member of the public at 10.03 am.

DBKU traffic personnel successfully arrived at the scene within just eight minutes, demonstrating the team’s swift response capability and strong commitment to ensuring smooth traffic flow and road user safety.

“The exercise also involved two Traffic Police officers from the Royal Malaysia Police, as well as approximately 10 DBKU traffic wardens and members of the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Unit.

“This strategic collaboration reflects an integrated approach to risk management and traffic control during unforeseen situations,” it said.

DBKU also advised members of the public who encounter traffic light malfunctions in Kuching North to report them immediately via 082-446644 to ensure prompt action and prevent accidents.

“DBKU remains committed to continuously enhancing its operational preparedness to ensure safety, smooth traffic flow, and the well-being of city residents,” it said.
