KUCHING: Police arrested a 49-year-old local woman and seized 18 packets of suspected methamphetamine weighing 5.07 grams during a narcotics operation in Tabuan Jaya on Tuesday (Feb 10).

Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the suspect was arrested at about 2.20pm by a team from the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division (NCID) of the Kuching District Police Headquarters.

“Inspection on the suspect led to the seizure of 18 transparent plastic packets containing crystalline substances believed to be methamphetamine, weighing 5.07 grams, with an estimated market value of RM557,” he said in a statement.

Initial urine screening conducted on the suspect tested negative for drugs. Police checks also found that she has no prior criminal record.

The case is being investigated under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a jail term of not less than two years and not more than five years upon conviction.

Alexson said the arrest was the result of continuous intelligence efforts and public cooperation.

“Police will not compromise with any party involved in drug-related activities. Possessing, distributing or protecting drug activities is a serious offence under the law,” he said.
