KUCHING: Building a caring city that prioritises people not just physical development remains the core commitment of Kuching South City Council (MBKS).

Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng stressed that development must go beyond buildings and infrastructure to include compassion, community care and support for families in need, in line with the council’s principle that no one should be left behind.

“Development is not only about buildings and infrastructure.

“It is also about people,” he said when speaking during the Program Masyarakat Penyayang held in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebration at KMC Flats today.

On the gathering, Wee said that despite it being simple, the gathering carries a very meaningful message.

“That we care, and that we stand together as one community,” he added.

The annual programme, organised by MBKS, aims to spread compassion, unity and shared responsibility among residents while helping households celebrate the festive season with dignity and joy.

As part of the initiative, each household received one chicken and a RM10 voucher sponsored by CCK Consolidated Holdings Berhad to help ease preparations for the traditional reunion dinner.

“It may seem modest, but we hope it will ease your preparation for the reunion dinner and bring warmth to your home,” he said.

Wee also thanked CCK for its continued support and commitment to corporate social responsibility.

“CCK has never failed to work hand in hand with MBKS in our community programmes. When the public and private sectors collaborate, we can make a real difference in people’s lives,” he said.
