SERIAN: A 70-year-old man was killed after the car he was driving skidded into a drain at Kampung Lintang Baru, Batu 28 Jalan Kuching-Serian here this afternoon (Feb 13).
The victim was identified as Then Let Fui.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) received an emergency call at 2.52 pm and deployed a team from the Serian station to the scene.
Upon arrival, firefighters found that a Proton Saga carrying three people had veered off the road and plunged into a drain.
“The driver was trapped in his seat and unconscious, while two passengers – an elderly individual and a child – sustained injuries but were not trapped,” a Bomba spokesperson said.
Firefighters extricated the driver using road traffic accident (RTA) rescue equipment and a stretcher.
He was later pronounced dead by medical personnel at the scene and his body was handed over to the police for further action.
The two injured passengers were taken to hospital by ambulance for treatment.
Operations concluded after the situation was deemed safe.
