LUNDU: Police is launching a manhunt for a suspect still at large following the death of an 18-year-old youth who was believed to have been murdered at a rented house here.
Lundu Police Chief, Supt Sudirman Kram, said police received information at 7.12 am on Thursday from a medical officer at Sarawak General Hospital regarding the victim, who was sent to the emergency unit unconscious and without a pulse.
He was later pronounced dead.
“Initial examination found swelling on the victim’s eye and left cheek, as well as dried blood on his nose.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that prior to the incident, the victim and several co-workers had attended a social gathering and were believed to have consumed alcohol.
“A quarrel reportedly broke out between the victim and a suspect, who was also his co-worker and housemate, which escalated into a physical altercation,” he said in a statement.
The victim was said to have fainted following the incident and was taken to the hospital by the suspect for treatment.
Police have detained three men, who are the victim’s co-workers, to assist in investigations.
A four-wheel-drive vehicle and several mobile phones were also seized.
The suspect, who allegedly fled after sending the victim to the hospital, is being actively tracked down.
The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
Sudirman advised the public not to speculate in ways that could interfere with investigations.
