Man killed in ice cream lorry crash

SELANGAU: A 41-year-old man was killed after the ice cream lorry he was travelling in skidded and crashed in a single-vehicle accident at Batu 40, Sungai Kua here along Jalan Sibu-Bintulu this evening (Feb 13).

Another man was injured in the incident.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the accident was reported at 5.30 pm.

Upon arrival, firefighters found the lorry had veered off the road.

“One victim had been removed earlier by police and Civil Defence personnel and sent to hospital.

“The second victim was trapped inside the vehicle and unconscious. Firefighters used rescue tools to extricate him,” said its spokesperson.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.

He was identified as Ng Wan Shoon, 41.

Firefighters later cleared debris from the road before concluding operations after the situation was deemed safe.
