KUCHING: The ‘Program Walkabout Mesra Masyarakat 2.0’ event brought together residents, enforcement authorities and the local council to address safety and infrastructure concerns in the Jalan Rock/Bampfylde area on Friday (Feb 13).
Organised by the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) Jalan Rock/Bampfylde, the initiative saw participation from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) with the walkabout covering Jalan Crookshank, Kim San Court, parts of Jalan Bampfylde and Laman Sunvalley.
A total of 12 PDRM officers, led by head of the Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department, DSP Jo Ak Hang, introduced the Volunteer Smartphone Patrol (VSP) application, distributed informational leaflets and responded to safety-related issues raised by residents.
DBKU deployed 10 officers from various divisions, led by head of Public Relations Division, Norhayati Bidin.
Officers from the Infrastructure Maintenance Division (IMT) and other relevant units recorded infrastructure complaints and matters requiring improvement for follow-up action.
The programme was a continuation of an earlier walkabout that received encouraging participation, aimed at strengthening communication and enabling on-site identification of neighbourhood issues.
Youth Chairman of the Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Kuching Branch, Nicholas Wung Duk Ying, said such engagements provide a platform to better understand residents’ concerns and facilitate follow-up through appropriate administrative and legal channels.
Meanwhile, JKKK Jalan Rock/Bampfylde chairman, Kapitan Fong Yee Chee, said the committee would continue working closely with PDRM and DBKU to enhance safety, infrastructure and overall living conditions.
The organisers expressed appreciation to residents for their participation and indicated that similar programmes will be organised throughout the year to further strengthen community cooperation.
