Elderly man found safe after missing while collecting wood

SEBUYAU: A man who did not return home after going to collect wood in the upper river of Kampung Tungkah Melayu yesterday was found safe this morning.

A spokesperson for the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Operations Centre said the 69-year-old victim was located by villagers at 9:30 am.

“The victim was found at the location where he was collecting wood, safe but weak. The distance from his house to where he was found by boat takes more than one hour,” he said in a statement.

He added that the victim was taken to a clinic by his family for further medical checks.

Authorities received a report about the man’s disappearance at about 10.10 am today, after he failed to return home following a trip to collect ‘kayu turus’ at the upper river of Kampung Tungkah Melayu at around 3 pm yesterday.
