KUCHING: The state-level Chinese New Year 2026 celebration at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) was held in a lively atmosphere with the attendance of people from various ethnic communities across the state.

Members of the public began flocking to BCCK as early as 9 am to enliven the event organised by the Sarawak Government.

A variety of special festive dishes were also prepared for visitors at the celebration, which took place from 10 am to 2 pm today.

The Chinese New Year celebration was also graced by the presence of the Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, along with other distinguished guests representing the diverse communities in the state.

Wan Junaidi also extended his Chinese New Year greetings to the community.

“’Gong Xi Fa Cai’ to everyone. We hope the Year of the Horse will bring prosperity and well-being to us all,” he said when met by reporters.

Earlier, Wan Junaidi and Fauziah arrived at about 10 am.

The event also saw Wan Junaidi and Fauziah, accompanied by guests, performing the ‘yee sang’ tossing ceremony before spending more than an hour mingling with attendees.

This year marks the third time the state-level Chinese New Year celebration has been organised, in line with the Premier’s vision under the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030), which emphasises inclusivity and unity.
