BAU: Police are investigating the theft of a battery from a road roller machine at a construction site here.
Bau district police chief Supt Mohd Haide A Rahman said the compactor battery, bearing serial stem number 510, was discovered missing at about 8 am on Sept 18.
“The complainant, a machine operator, arrived at the road construction site at Lorong Banan 17, Suba Bandar, and found the battery removed from the road roller. The estimated loss is RM600,” he said.
Haide said the complainant had last used the road roller at about 5 pm on Sept 17 before parking it by the roadside at the site and locking it.
“There was no additional lock on the machine, and the battery compartment cover was secured only with a clip.
“The construction site is an open area with no CCTV coverage, though a security guard employed by the company patrols the site at night,” he said.
He added that the guard’s last recorded patrol near the road roller was at 2 am, with photo reports of the rounds sent to the company’s WhatsApp group as routine practice.
Haide noted that the guard was responsible for monitoring 10 machines scattered across the site during his shift, and there were no witnesses to the incident.
The case is being investigated under Section 379A(2) of the Penal Code.
