Local man remanded over shop theft in Miri

MIRI: Police in Miri arrested a 53-year old local man in connection with a theft at a grocery shop in Bandar Baru Permyjaya, recovering items believed to belong to the complainant.

The suspect was detained following intelligence-led operations by the Criminal Investigation Division of the Miri district police headquarters. He was picked up in the Permyjaya area, where officers also seized several items alleged to have been stolen.

The incident is reported to have occurred at about 1.30pm on Feb17 at a grocery shop along Jalan Dato Permaisuri, Bandar Baru Permyjaya. The complainant allegedly lost a wallet containing personal documents and cash, with total losses estimated at RM350.

Police confirmed the suspect has been remanded for three days to facilitate further investigations.

The case is being investigated under Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft in a building, an offence which carries a maximum jail term of up to 10 years, a fine, or both upon conviction.
