MIRI: Ten motorcycles were seized, 95 summonses issued and one rider stopped in his tracks during an overnight ‘Op Samseng Jalanan’ conducted by Miri police.
District police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the operation, held from 6pm on Feb 18 until 3am the following day, focused on several locations including Jalan Piasau, Jalan Pujut, Jalan Tanjong, Jalan Miri By Pass and the Marina area.
“A 22-year-old local rider was arrested under Section 108(3)(f) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for allegedly displaying a false registration number.
“Ten motorcycles were also seized under Section 64 of the same Act for further action,” he said in a statement.
A total of 82 individuals and 55 motorcycles were inspected.
Police detected various offences, including expired road tax, absence of registration numbers, fancy number plates, riding without a valid licence, modified exhaust systems and missing side mirrors.
Mohd Farhan said enforcement would continue to curb illegal street racing and ensure compliance with traffic laws.
