KUCHING: As Muslims observed the first day of Ramadan 1447H today (Feb 19), the Blood Bank of Sarawak General Hospital reminded the public that donating blood does not invalidate one’s fast.
In a message shared in conjunction with the holy month, the Blood Bank encouraged eligible donors to continue supporting the hospital’s blood supply needs, as demand remains unchanged throughout Ramadan.
On average, between 70 and 80 bags of blood are used daily at the hospital, including during the fasting month.
“Blood donation is one of the activities that does not invalidate fasting,” it said.
Muslim donors who wish to donate while fasting are advised to do so before 9.30 am, provided they have taken a proper ‘sahur’ meal.
The Blood Bank also called on regular donors who have reached their eligible donation interval to come forward.
Throughout Ramadan, its operating hours remain Monday to Friday, from 8 am to 4.30 pm.
While Ramadan is a time of spiritual reflection and self-discipline, it is also a month that encourages generosity and care for others.
For many patients undergoing treatment or emergency procedures, the steady supply of blood can make a crucial difference.
