BINTANGOR: The Chinese New Year 2026 celebration jointly organised by the Meradong state assemblyman’s Service Centre and the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Meradong Branch was held in a spirit of harmony and unity at the Bintangor Community Hall.

The event was attended by Meradong state assemblyman, Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing, and his wife, Datin Kueh Nai Fun, who joined residents in celebrating the Chinese community’s traditional festival.

In his speech, Ding expressed appreciation to the organisers for successfully hosting the celebration.

“Celebrations such as this not only allow the Chinese community to observe their traditions and culture but also serve as an important platform for all of us to reinforce unity and mutual understanding,” he said during the celebration today.

Ding distributed ‘angpow’ (red envelopes containing cash) and food bags to attendees during the celebration.

The food bags were prepared to accommodate Muslim residents observing the first day of the fasting month.

The contributions were well-received, particularly by children and senior citizens, reflecting the spirit of mutual respect and togetherness within the state’s diverse community.

The event began with energetic Chinese New Year-themed performances by invited singers, symbolising prosperity and blessings, followed by a brief address by Kapitan Ting Pang Keng representing the Bintangor community.

The strong turnout from local residents underscored the close ties among the area’s multi-ethnic population and reinforced the celebration’s role as a platform to strengthen relations between leaders and the community while supporting ongoing development efforts in the state.
