BINTANGOR: Upgrading works for the Bintangor community hall will be carried out in the near future following the approval of projects under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) for 2026.
Meradong assemblyman Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing said the works involve the installation of a public address (PA) system as well as colourful decorative lighting for the hall’s stage.
He said the enhancements are aimed at improving user comfort while strengthening the hall’s role as a centre for community activities and a catalyst for local development.
“The upgrading of these facilities will provide a more conducive environment for programmes and gatherings, benefiting residents in Bintangor and the wider Meradong district,” he said when speaking at the 2026 Chinese New Year celebration held at the Bintangor Community Hall on Thursday (Feb 19).
Meanwhile, Ding reaffirmed that the development agenda in Meradong remains a priority, in line with the spirit of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), which underpins Sarawak’s rights and position within the Federation of Malaysia.
He said MA63 guarantees certain autonomous powers to Sarawak, including authority over land matters, natural resources and state administration, which serve as key drivers of the state’s economic growth.
“Land ownership rights in Sarawak fall under the jurisdiction of the state government.
“Oil and gas revenue is also among the main economic sources that significantly contribute to the implementation of various development projects,” he explained.
He added that the state government remains committed to ensuring that revenue generated is channelled back to the people through various initiatives, including the Kampung Satu Malaysia Programme, which will see the development of SPEKTRA (Skim Pembesaran Kampung Tradisi) housing for residents in Meradong.
The initiative aims to assist those who have yet to own a home, enabling them to enjoy more comfortable and well-planned housing in line with inclusive rural development planning.
Ding also expressed appreciation for the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, who continues to spearhead rapid development across Sarawak, encompassing infrastructure, public amenities and rural development.
He was optimistic that the planned projects and their implementation would continue to bring progress and well-being to the people of Meradong in particular and Sarawak as a whole.
