KUCHING: A single-storey house in Kampung Segedup, Jalan Stapok, Batu Kawa, sustained about 20 per cent damage in a fire this afternoon.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) received a distress call at 4.31 pm and dispatched firefighters from the Batu Lintang station, assisted by personnel from Kota Sentosa.
Upon arrival, firefighters found the blaze confined to the kitchen area of the semi-permanent structure measuring approximately 30 by 40 square feet.
Firefighters used one hose line to extinguish residual flames in the ceiling area and prevent the fire from spreading further.
The situation was brought under control and firefighters returned to the station after ensuring the premises were safe.
Fourteen personnel and two fire engines were involved in the operation.
