Teenager feared drowned after falling into river

KUCHING: A 17-year-old boy is feared drowned after reportedly falling into a river at Kampung Kolong Sungai Tengah near SK Tan Sri Datuk Haji Mohamed this afternoon (Feb 20).

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) received a distress call at 4.32 pm, and firefighters from the Petra Jaya station arrived at the scene at about 4.50 pm.

The victim has been identified as Fahril Zaquan Hasbullah.

According to information from the victim’s friend, the teenager was playing by the riverbank when he fell into the water and was swept away by strong currents.

Firefighters are conducting a search along the riverbank. The victim has yet to be found at the time of writing.

Nine personnel, assisted by police, are involved in the operations.
