KUCHING: Stutong Community Market came alive today as locals gathered for the Community Bubur Lambuk Distribution Programme 2026, celebrating Ramadan with traditional foods and fostering community bonds.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian and Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng were present at the event, distributing 700 bubur lambuk to residents and joining in the Ramadan festivities.

During the programme, Dr Sim highlighted the multicultural spirit of Sarawak’s Ramadan bazaars.

“We are very fortunate. It’s not only the Muslims; the Chinese, the Dayak, everyone comes to enjoy the Ramadan Bazaar. Some of this food, you only find during Ramadan, and these are what make Sarawak special,” he said.

He also stressed the importance of hygiene and community spirit.

“We must constantly remind people about hygiene. The council, together with the Safety and Health Committee (JKS), puts in a lot of effort to ensure the food is safe.

“Nowadays, people wear gloves, hats, aprons- these are the minimum we can do. This is how we build the nation together – the spirit of unity, togetherness, and solidarity,” Dr Sim added.

Wee also praised the affordable pricing and improved standards at the bazaars.

“We are proud to be the lowest renter ever charged. After more than 20 years, prices have remained reasonable so that more people can enjoy the bazaar.

“We also prioritise hygiene. When stalls apply, they must submit all health documents, and the council conducts regular checks,” he said.

He added that Ramadan bazaars play a role in fostering cultural understanding and unity.

“Even the food represents one Sarawak. Through food, we connect in unity and maintain our harmony,” Wee said.
