MIRI: Police have arrested a local man believed to be behind the theft of a motorcycle in Tudan, dealing a swift blow to vehicle-related crime in the district.
The suspect was picked up at about 11.40 am in the Tudan Desaras area following operations led by Miri Police Station chief, ASP Goldy Jangan, assisted by officers from the Criminal Investigation Unit of Miri Central Police Station.
The case stems from a reported motorcycle theft at a house , in Jalan Permy Technology Park, Tudan.
Acting on intelligence and ground inquiries, police moved in and successfully recovered the stolen motorcycle, a Honda Wave, which is now being held as an exhibit to support the investigation.
The suspect has been remanded at the Miri Central Police Station lock-up and is being investigated under Section 379A of the Penal Code for motorcycle theft, an offence that carries a stiff penalty upon conviction.
Police have reiterated their call for the public to respect the law and the property of others, stressing that crime is not a solution to economic hardship.
Members of the public are also urged to remain vigilant and to channel information on suspicious activities to the police to help curb crime in the district.
Miri police said community cooperation remains a critical pillar in ensuring public safety and maintaining law and order.
