SIBU: A face-to-face, on-the-ground approach allows issues raised by the public to be assessed more comprehensively, particularly matters involving basic needs and local development.
Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing stressed that prompt follow-up action will be taken by directing his team to review the issues raised based on priority and actual conditions on the ground.
“I assure that every complaint will be carefully examined and appropriate action will be taken. Our commitment to the people’s welfare is not limited to festive seasons alone but is carried out continuously,” he was quoted as saying in an UKAS report during his Chinese New Year 2026 visits recently.
Tiong’s Chinese New Year 2026 visit series around Sibu concluded after he visited more than 20 homes, including those of community leaders and local residents.
He noted that the festive season provides an ideal opportunity to engage with the public in a more relaxed yet meaningful setting.
“Festive seasons offer the best chance for us to strengthen ties and get closer to the people in a more relaxed but meaningful atmosphere.
“In such settings, I am able to directly hear views and suggestions from the community,” he said.
Tiong, who is also the Dudong assemblyman, expressed appreciation for the warm reception and trust shown by the community throughout the visit series, while reaffirming his commitment to continue serving responsibly for the well-being of the people in Sibu.
