SERIAN: A local man was arrested for allegedly conducting online gambling activities during a police operation here on Monday (Feb 23).
Serian police chief Supt Freddy Bian Stanislaus Bian said the suspect was detained at about 5.30pm following an inspection by officers from the Criminal Investigation Department at a premises in the district.
Initial checks found the individual was suspected of being involved in online gambling activities.
“The suspect was arrested and several items were seized to assist further investigations,” he said in a statement.
The case is being investigated under Section 4B(a) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953, which carries a fine of up to RM100,000 or imprisonment of up to five years upon conviction.
Freddy urged the public not to engage in illegal gambling activities and welcomed information related to such offences to be channelled to the Serian district police headquarters or the nearest police station.
