KUCHING: The current status of “Borneonisation agenda” in federal positions stands at 87.50 per cent in Sarawak and 71.88 per cent in Sabah.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah and Sarawak) Datuk Mustapha Sakmud said this initiative is important not only for capacity building of federal civil servants in Sabah and Sarawak, but also to foster trust, continuity, and cultural understanding within government services.
“Malaysia Madani emphasises the well-being of the people as a measure of policy success, and under this framework, the Borneonisation agenda, though still under discussion, is steadily progressing.
“There is no fixed target for its completion, as the programme aims to increase the participation of local officers in the federal service.”
He said this during a media conference after the Minister’s Address at the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah & Sarawak) Meeting with Heads of Departments and Federal Agencies in Sarawak at Sultan Iskandar Building here on Tuesday (Feb 24).
He added that the rise in Sarawak civil servants joining federal agencies is a positive indicator.
“At the same time, we should also learn from civil servants from other states to encourage interaction. Interaction is important for learning from one another.
“I also encourage Sarawak civil servants to take up challenges by working in other states so they can gain valuable experience.
“By working especially in Putrajaya, they can learn different work cultures and bring these insights back to improve planning and implementation in our own state.”
