Man picked up for illegal online gambling operation

SERIAN: A local man was arrested for allegedly operating an online gambling activity at a premises here on Tuesday (Feb 24).

Serian police chief Freddy Bian Stanislaus Bian said the suspect was arrested at about 3.40pm during an inspection by officers from the Criminal Investigation Division of the district police headquarters (IPD).

“The suspect has been arrested and several items seized to assist investigations,” he said in a statement.

The case is being investigated under Section 4B(a) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953, which carries a fine of up to RM100,000 or imprisonment of up to five years upon conviction.

Freddy advised the public not to engage in illegal gambling activities and said enforcement operations would continue against those found violating the law.
