Three arrested in raids 30 minutes apart in housing estate

KUCHING: Police arrested three local men in two narcotics raids conducted just over 30 minutes apart in Hua Joo Park here late Sunday night and early Monday morning (Feb 23–24).

Kuching police chief Alexson Naga Chabu said the operations were carried out by officers from the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department.

In the first raid at about 11.30pm on Feb 23, a 21-year-old man was detained at the staircase area of a building in Jalan Datuk Tawi Sli.

“Police seized three packets of suspected ecstasy weighing 121.88 grammes, with an estimated value of RM1,050.

“A urine screening test found the suspect positive for ketamine. He had no prior criminal record,” he said in a statement.

Just over 30 minutes later, at about 12.01am on Feb 24, two local men aged 29 and 30 were arrested at a premises in the same area.

“Seized were 133 ecstasy pills weighing 55.02 grammes and 15 small packets of suspected ketamine weighing 14.04 grammes, with an estimated value of RM6,650.

“One suspect tested negative in a urine screening, while the other tested positive for amphetamine, methamphetamine and ketamine,” Alexson added.

All suspects were remanded under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code to assist investigations.

The cases are being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
