BINTULU: A 31-year-old man was killed after the van he was driving crashed into a tree along a highway near Columbia Asia Hospital here this morning.
The victim was identified as Wilson Lun Andrew.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said they received an emergency call at 10.25am and a team from the Bintulu station was dispatched to the scene, about 14km away.
“Upon arrival, the operation commander reported a single-vehicle accident involving a van that had collided with a roadside tree. The male driver was found trapped in the driver’s seat,” said Bomba.
Firefighters used special rescue equipment to extricate the victim.
He was later pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel before his body was handed over to the police for further action.
The operation ended at 11.19am.
