SRI AMAN: The Sarawak-level Nuzul Al-Quran celebration for the year 1447H/2026M was held in a spiritually uplifting atmosphere at the Sri Aman Town Mosque on Friday (Mar 6).
Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, graced the event while Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg was also present to mark the meaningful occasion.
Carrying the theme ‘Ummah Maju Makmur, Insan Berilmu Menjulang Kelestarian Alam’, the celebration brought together around 1,500 attendees, including dignitaries, community leaders and members of the public.
The programme began with a ‘tazkirah’ (lecture) delivered by Director of the Islamic Centre at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), Dr Sarip Adul, who spoke on the topic ‘Al-Quran Memartabatkan Ilmu, Melestarikan Alam’.
The evening programme also featured a recitation of verses from the Holy Quran by the 2026 Sarawak-level Tilawah Al-Quran champion, Jubni Sulong.
Earlier, guests broke their fast together at the mosque with the Muslim community in Sri Aman before performing the Maghrib prayer in congregation.
The programme later continued with the Isyak prayer, followed by congregational Tarawih and Witir prayers before concluding with a moreh reception.
The Nuzul Al-Quran celebration commemorates the historic revelation of the Al-Quran to Prophet Muhammad SAW while also serving as a reminder for Muslims to continue strengthening their faith, knowledge and appreciation of the Quran in their daily lives.
In conjunction with the celebration, several side programmes were also organised, including a ‘Forum Perdana Saudara Kita’ event at Hotel Sri Simanggang, an Al-Quran Seminar at SK (A) Sri Aman, and a ‘Ramadan Ziarah’ programme aimed at strengthening engagement with the local community.
Also present were Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nasar, State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, and Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Project Coordinator for Regional Development Agencies, DBKU and Islamic Affairs) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, along with heads of departments and other distinguished guests.
