LIMBANG: A temporary evacuation centre (PPS) has been opened here after persistent heavy rain triggered flooding in a village on the outskirts of the town.
Authorities activated the PPS at Dewan Masyarakat Medamit late on Saturday night to accommodate residents from Kampung Hujung Jalan who were forced to leave their homes as water levels rose.
The centre was opened at 11.30 pm following continuous rainfall that began on Friday night.
A total of ten evacuees, comprising five men and five women from four families, have been relocated to the shelter.
Officials said the situation at the centre remained stable, with emergency responders coordinating relief and monitoring conditions on the ground.
Twenty-three personnel from several agencies have been deployed to support the operation, including the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM), the Social Welfare Department (JKM), police, the People’s Volunteer Corps (RELA) and the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM).
Civil defence officers said teams would continue monitoring rainfall and water levels in the affected area, while remaining on standby should conditions deteriorate.
Residents in flood-prone areas have been advised to remain alert and follow instructions issued by the authorities.
Emergency responders have also urged members of the public to avoid entering inundated locations to prevent accidents and ensure rescue operations are not disrupted.
Members of the public requiring assistance or facing emergencies can contact the APM Limbang operations centre at 085-210471 or dial the national emergency line at 999.
