Abang Jo graces Khatam Al-Quran ceremony

KUCHING: The Khatam Al-Quran (completion of reciting the whole Quran) ceremony and premier iftar with Islamic agencies added to the blessings of the holy month of Ramadan when it was held at the Sarawak Islamic Complex Hall here on Wednesday.

Premier Abang Johari Tun Openg was present to grace the event.

The ceremony began with the Khatam Al-Quran recitation, initiated by the Premier with Surah Ad-Dhuha before continuing with the Takhtim Al-Quran recitation.

The programme then proceeded with the breaking of fast and the Maghrib prayer before dinner was served.

After the dinner, Abang Johari and his daughter, Dayang Norjihan, presented duit raya contributions to 50 asnaf and mualaf from the Kuching and Samarahan divisions.

Guests later proceeded to the prayer area to perform the isyak prayer, followed by the tarawih prayer before the event concluded with a moreh (sharing a meal after terawih prayers).

Among those present were Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunications Datuk Ibrahim Baki and Sarawak Attorney General Datuk Seri Saferi Ali.
