BINTANGOR: Police arrested a local man suspected of involvement in illegal gambling during an operation conducted under ‘Ops Dadu’ on Thursday.

Meradong Police chief, DSP Tansli Mering, said the suspect, believed to be in his 20s, was detained at about 10.45 am by a team from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the district police headquarters (IPD).

He said officers also seized items believed to be used in gambling activities, including a printed slip containing suspected illegal lottery numbers and a sum of cash.

“The suspect and the seized items were brought to the Bintangor Police Station for further action,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 4A(a) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953, which carries a fine of between RM1,000 and RM100,000, imprisonment of up to five years, or both upon conviction.

Tansli advised the public not to engage in gambling or other criminal activities and urged those with information to contact the Bintangor Police Station at 084-693222.
