KUCHING: Close cooperation between the Sarawak State Government and the Federal Government continues to yield positive results, with several key issues reportedly resolved through brief discussions between the two sides today.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, revealed that his discussion with Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, held prior to the MADANI Iftar event, indicated very promising prospects for the state’s future.

“Earlier, we had a short meeting between the Federal and State Governments. We ‘touched base’ a little, and alhamdulillah, with unity and strong camaraderie, it seems the issues were resolved,” he said.

He made the remarks during the MADANI Iftar 2026 held at the grounds of Masjid Jamek here today.

Abang Johari also expressed appreciation for the Prime Minister’s willingness to approve several important matters that will bring significant benefits to the people of Sarawak as a whole.

The Premier also emphasised that political and economic stability under the Malaysia MADANI leadership allows the country to play a significant role internationally, especially in addressing conflicts in Islamic countries that impact the global economy.

“The Prime Minister’s leadership, respected abroad, reflects strong harmony at home. If our country were in chaos, attention would likely be focused only on domestic issues. But today, our economy is strong, investments are coming in, and many foreign ambassadors are visiting Sarawak seeking investment opportunities,” he added.

Touching on public welfare, Abang Johari said the Sarawak Government remains committed to supporting federal efforts to ease the cost of living.

He announced an allocation of RM650 million under the Bantuan Khas Sarawakku Sayang (BKSS) programme to assist targeted B40 groups in Sarawak.

The Premier also expressed admiration for the Prime Minister’s extraordinary commitment, noting that he flew directly to Kuching immediately after a morning Cabinet meeting in Putrajaya solely to meet with the people of Sarawak.
