SIBU: The month of Ramadan is not only a time for fasting, but also the best time for the community to cultivate patience and enhance concern for fellow human beings.

Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan Branch chairman, Cr Kevin Lau Kor Jie said Ramadan provides an opportunity for the community to share sustenance as well as strengthen relationships within the community.

According to him, this holy month reminds the community to always fill their hearts with patience as well as continue to care for each other in community life.

“Apart from that, what I always remember in conjunction with the month of Ramadan is that this is the time to fill our hearts with patience.

“Not only can we share our sustenance here but most importantly, we continue to care for each other in our community,” he said at the Ramadan 2026 Breaking-the-Fast Ceremony hosted by SUPP Bawang Assan Branch in collaboration with the Sungai Parah Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) at Surau Husnul Khatimah, Kampung Selalo, West Bank here on Friday evening.

Lau, who is also SUPP Youth Central chairman, said that efforts such as the joint breaking the fast ceremony not only provide an opportunity for the community to gather, but also help foster closer relationships among residents of various races and religions.

He said that the unity that exists in a plural society is the main strength that is the pride of the people in Sarawak.

Meanwhile, he also expressed his appreciation to all those present and the organisers who continue to support efforts to strengthen community relations through the programme.

He said that breaking the fast ceremony like this also provides an opportunity for the community to sit together, interact and strengthen the spirit of unity and harmony.

“Through events like this, we can sit together, break the fast together and at the same time continue to strengthen the spirit of unity among the multi-racial and multi-religious community,” he added.

The event was attended by about 100 local residents and community leaders who broke the fast together in an atmosphere full of goodwill.

At the event, Lau also presented duit raya to children and attendees. Also present was Sungai Parah JKKK chairman Kapitan Ting Siew Kiew.
