SADONG JAYA: An allocation of RM100,000 has been approved for upgrading works at Masjid Darul Rahman in Kampung Rangawan here.

Batang Sadong MP Rodiyah Sapiee said the allocation will cover the upgrading of the mosque’s floor and walls, while new proposals such as the construction of a ceiling will be reviewed through a technical assessment by the Sarawak Development Office (SDO) together with the Batang Sadong Parliamentary Office.

“The SDO and the Parliamentary Office will conduct a site visit to assess the technical requirements and additional costs needed for the proposed improvements,” she said during the Program Jalinan Kasih Ramadan Batang Sadong 2026 held here recently.

Touching on long-term development, Rodiyah also acknowledged the need for the construction of a new mosque or surau following the increasing population in the area.

In this regard, she welcomed any parties who wish to endow land for the construction of religious facilities to discuss the matter with her office or with Simunjan assemblyman Awla Dris for further action in collaboration with the Sarawak Land and Survey Department.

During the programme, 51 residents in need from Zone 4 Rangawan received welfare assistance through the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative by the Malaysian Cooperative Commission (SKM) Sarawak Branch.

Rodiyah said the total contribution of RM12,750 aims to ease the burden of recipients while bringing some cheer ahead of the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.

According to her, each recipient received assistance worth RM250, comprising RM100 in cash and a RM150 food basket containing essential items for the festive season.

Rodiyah, who is also a board member of SKM, explained that the annual programme serves as a platform for the Batang Sadong Parliamentary Service Centre to directly engage with communities across 74 mosques and surau throughout the parliamentary constituency.
