SERIAN: Police have arrested a local woman suspected of carrying out online gambling activities at a premises in Pekan Lama Muara Mongkos here yesterday (Mar 15).
Serian police chief Supt Freddy Bian Stanislaus Bian said the suspect was detained during an inspection by officers from the Criminal Investigation Division of the district police headquarters (IPD) at about 4pm.
“Initial checks found the individual believed to be involved in online gambling activities.
“The suspect has been arrested and items related to the case were seized to assist further investigation,” he said in a statement.
Freddy said the case is being investigated under Section 4B(a) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953.
If convicted, the offence carries a fine of up to RM100,000, imprisonment of up to five years, or both.
He also advised the public not to be involved in any illegal gambling activities and urged those with information to contact the Serian police station or any nearest police station.
