KUCHING: A community appreciation initiative aimed at recognising the resilience of single mothers took centre stage at Mita Cake House (Heritage Garden) on Tuesday.
Officiated by Minister for Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah, the programme was held in conjunction with the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.
The event honoured single mothers from Persatuan Ibu Tunggal Sarawak, with 50 specially prepared gift bags distributed to those present to ease their festive preparations.
In addition, 100 charity sets were made available for public sale, with proceeds channelled towards supporting programmes and initiatives for single mothers.
The initiative also highlighted broader community collaboration, including a partnership with young autistic artist Kelvin Li, whose artwork was featured on specially designed cosmetic and tote bags.
Supported by the Kuching Association of Talent Development and Welfare of Special Needs (KATSN), the effort was aimed to raise awareness on nurturing the talents of children with special needs and supporting families raising children with autism.
Mita Cake House also introduced its newly trademarked character, the ‘Mita Cat Baker’c symbolising the bakery’s identity rooted in creativity, warmth and community spirit.
Speaking at the event, its chief operating officer Diana Law Che Kiat emphasised that the programme was not merely a product launch, but a recognition of the strength and sacrifices of single mothers.
She added that many single mothers carry the dual role of provider and caregiver, and their resilience deserves continued support and recognition from the community.
The programme also reflected the company’s belief in giving back to society, particularly to groups that form the backbone of communities.
“Through this initiative, we hope families can celebrate Hari Raya with joy and warmth, knowing that there are people who care and support them,” she said.
