MIRI: A local man has been arrested here on suspicion of stealing copper piping from a residential property in the Piasau Garden area.
The arrest was carried out at 3.30 pm on Thursday by officers from the Criminal Prevention Branch of Miri Central Police Station, following intelligence linked to the reported theft.
Police detained the suspect near a petrol station along Jalan Desa Senadin during a targeted operation led by Assistant Superintendent Goldy Jangan.
Several copper pipes, believed to have been taken from the property, were recovered at the scene and seized for further investigation.
The suspect is being held at Miri Central Police Station. The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft.
Miri District Police Chief, ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah, said efforts to curb property crime, particularly involving recyclable materials such as copper, would be intensified.
He also urged the public to provide information to assist police investigations.
Police said investigations are ongoing and have not ruled out further arrests.
