SIBU: The general public is urged to come forward to contribute to the Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) Annual Flag Sale fund as a sign of support for the humanitarian efforts carried out by the organisation.
Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Youth Head, Councillor Kevin Lau Kor Jie said that every contribution given, regardless of the amount, can have a great impact in strengthening aid programmes and increase community awareness.
“Every ringgit donated not only helps to make humanitarian activities a success, but also supports efforts to produce young generation who are skilled in first aid and saving lives,” he said at the launching ceremony of MRCS Sibu Branch’s Annual Flags Sales 2026 held at Star Mega Mall here yesterday (Mar 28).

He was representing Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government, Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee in the event.
Lau who is also SUPP Bawang Assan Chairman, emphasised that the flag sale campaign is an important platform for students to learn basic skills that can be used in emergency situations.
“Students who are exposed to this knowledge are able to act quickly and play an important role in helping victims during emergencies,” he said.
He asserted that the knowledge gained should not be kept individually, but rather shared with the community to expand its benefits to the community.
“Sharing this knowledge is important in building a society that is more caring, sensitive and prepared to face any possibility,” he said.
Lau also stressed that the Red Crescent symbol is not just a symbol, but reflects a commitment to humanitarian services, including disaster relief and healthcare.
“This symbol carries great values of trust and responsibility, therefore community support is needed to ensure that this effort can continue,” he added .
Also present at the event was MRCS Sibu Branch Chairman, Penghulu Chua Hiong Kee.
