KUCHING: A motorcyclist was killed in a road accident involving a car at Jalan Kwong Lee Bank, in front of Klinik Tanah Putih, here on Monday morning (Mar 30).
Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the incident occurred at about 8.40am.
“Preliminary investigations found that the motorcyclist is believed to have lost control of the vehicle due to a slippery road surface before skidding and veering to the left side of the road.
“The motorcycle then crashed into the rear of a car which was stationary at the left lane, waiting at a red traffic light,” he said in a statement.
He added that the victim was pronounced dead at the scene at about 9.10am by a medical assistant from Hospital Umum Sarawak.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 which carries a penalty of up to 10 years’ imprisonment and a fine of up to RM50,000 upon conviction.
