KUCHING: Early bird registration for the Sarawak Energy Marathon 2026 has opened following its rebranding from the Sarawak Energy Isthmus Run, signalling the event’s expansion as a major international race.
Sarawak Energy Marathon organising chairman, Yusri Safri, said the rebranding reflects the event’s growth in scale and community impact since it was first introduced in 2013.
“The rebranding marks a milestone in the event’s growth, reflecting its significant expansion in both scale and community impact since its introduction in 2013,” he said in a recent press statement.
He also said the marathon, scheduled for Aug 9, welcomes runners of all levels, from seasoned professionals to first-time participants.
The 2025 edition attracted nearly 6,000 runners from Malaysia and 14 other countries, including Australia, China, Indonesia, Kenya, the Netherlands and Singapore, highlighting its increasing international appeal.
As an official member of the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races, the event adheres to recognised international standards for competitive long-distance running.
Early bird registration offers four race categories: the 42km full marathon, 21km half marathon, 10km competitive run and 5km fun run.
Registration fees are RM90 for the full marathon, RM70 for the half marathon, RM60 for the 10km category and RM40 for the 5km fun run.
The 2026 edition carries a total prize pool of RM185,500, with winners in the men’s and women’s open categories receiving up to RM10,000 each.
Organisers said proceeds from registration fees will be channelled to charitable organisations supporting community development and social initiatives across Sarawak.
Members of the public are encouraged to register before March 31 to secure early bird rates.
