KUCHING: Sarawak will enhance students’ mastery of History through the Sarawak Education Enhancement Programme (SEEP) to improve future Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination results.

Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Sarawak Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn said there was previously no dedicated tuition programme for the subject, but the initiative is expected to help more candidates pass.

“Among the ‘killing subjects’ is History… Without it, we might have seen fewer SPM candidates passing.

“Previously, we did not have a tuition program for History. However, given the current situation, we will include it in the education enhancement program, SEEP.

“We hope that next year we will record even better results,” he told a press conference in conjunction with the release of Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) results held here today (Mar 31).

He added that 27 schools in Sarawak achieved a 100 per cent pass rate in SPM 2025, ensuring all candidates received the certificate.

Of these, 19 were rural schools, demonstrating that students in these areas can achieve excellent results when given sufficient support.

“This achievement reflects the high commitment of students and teachers, as well as ongoing support from various parties to ensure educational excellence in the state,” Sagah said.

“This is a very encouraging achievement and proves the dedication of students and educators, including those in rural areas.”

Among the schools with a 100 percent pass rate are Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Telang Usan, SMK Tutoh Apoh, SMK Temenggong Datuk Lawai Jau, SMK Agama Igan, and SMK Batang Igan.

Also listed are SMK Belawai, SMK Nanga Dap, SMK Balleh, Sekolah Seni Malaysia Sarawak, Kolej Datu Patinggi Abang Haji Abdillah, and SMK Agama Tun Ahmad Zaidi.

Other schools include SMK Teknik Sejingkat, SMK Merapok, SMK Sundar, SMK Kubong, SMK Agama Miri, SMK Sains Miri, and Kolej Tun Datu Tuanku Haji Bujang.

Additionally, SMK Agama Sheikh Haji Othman Abdul Wahab, SMK Sains Kuching, SMK Agama Matang 2, SMK Pesantren Abdul Taib Mahmud, SMK Agama Saratok, SMK Agama Sibu, SMK Bawang Assan, SMK St Elizabeth, and SMK Katibas also achieved the same milestone.

Meanwhile, the overall SPM 2025 performance in Sarawak showed improvement, with the State Average Grade (GPN) at 4.79, compared to 4.84 the previous year.

Of the 34,166 school candidates who sat for the examination, 31,506 candidates, or 93.99 percent, qualified to receive the SPM certificate.
